Abstract: Inconel 625 were successfully fabricated on an AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel substrate with two spindle speeds (350 rpm and 500 rpm) using friction surfacing (FS) without any discontinuity and crack. The microstructure of the cross-section of the FSed coatings were examined using scanning electron microscopy and electron back-scatted diffractometry, the average hardness was obtained using Vickers hardness tester, corrosion and wear behaviors were determined using a potentiostat and a tribometer respectively. For the effects of the spindle speed on the FSed coatings, coating fabricated at 500 rpm showed a thinner and narrower coating but with a smoother surface as compared with the one fabricated at 350 rpm. Compared to the AISI 304 substrate, the FSed coatings were shown to have a positive effect on the hardness, corrosion and wear resistances with 5.76%, 184.67% and 36.11% average increment respectively owing to the grain refinement, work hardening and the presence of intermetallic phases.
