Abstract: Cognition and emotion receive physical physiological influences. This research project investigates heart rate responses to movie stimuli using the BMD101 device, which combines biosensor technology with software development to monitor monitor heart rate responses during movie viewing in a real-time entertainment environment. It was also combined with real-time questionnaire feedback for comparison and to improve the validity of the questionnaire through emotional responses. The software utilizes the ThinkGear Android SDK and Android Studio to facilitate real-time ECG signal monitoring, health advice, ECG knowledge, emotion-heart rate relationship exploration, ECG record keeping, and Bluetooth data transfer capabilities. A detailed test plan was designed that included measuring changes in resting heart rate and heart rate while watching a movie. 10 volunteers participated in this test by watching two short films, “Don't Look Away” and “The Man Who Smiles,” while their heart rates were monitored. Test results showed consistent resting heart rate measurements between devices, with significant increases in heart rate at specific movie moments, supported by volunteer feedback. Valuable insights were provided to understand the physiological effects of media stimuli on human responses.
