Abstract: In the past few years, the most common cases of fire happen in infrastructure and buildings, such as apartments and office buildings. It has a great impact on lives, properties and society operations. Therefore, the study of smoke movement and temperature distribution plays an important role in predicting escape routes within a building. Building Information Model (BIM) software programs are commonly used in modeling buildings and other facilities. As a result, Revit and Pyrosim were utilized and compared directly in this research to examine the suitability of using BIM software in FDS for this simulation. In this study, simulations of three fire tests are conducted using Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) and Smokeview (SMV) with a 10-storey height building from the National Institute Research Council of Canada (NRCC). It aims to study the smoke movement and temperature distribution and to investigate the effects of stair mass on temperature growth as well. The results of the simulations are used to compare with the numerical and experimental results in (Hadjisophocleous & Jia, 2008).
